Approved Electrical Goods

Sarah Allen

Are your devices compliant with the electrical safety requirements?

The maximum penalty for selling, importing, hiring or exchanging ‘Declared articles’ without ‘Electrical Safety Approvals Marks’ and an Australian Certificate of Approval is $82,500 and/or two years jail for individuals or $825,000 for Corporations.

It is important to note that overseas Certificates of Approval and approval marks, such as the CE mark, CCC, CSA and UL are not acceptable in Australia.

If you sell, import, hire or exchange electrical goods that are ‘Non Declared items’ you are required to ensure they are electrically safe and comply with any relevant Australian Electrical Safety Standards. SGS may be in a position to provide you with this service  http://www.sgs.com.au/
